Posted 15th May 2009

Attention CRC members!

We are starting a CRC Book Group.

On Wednesday 27 May 2009
in the lounge at St Mark’s Church, Broomhill, Sheffield

The lounge will be open from 6.00pm for the sale of tea and coffee. You are very welcome to bring sandwiches and eat them at that time, we will provide plates!

The library will also be open from 6.00pm for browsing, borrowing and returning of books. At 7.00pm we will be introduced to a particular book and author.

The book selected for this first meeting is The Authentic Gospel of Jesus
by Geza Vermes . Penguin 2004.

Who was the real Jesus? What was the original message of the charismatic Jewish healer and moralist who changed the world? Renowned Biblical scholar Geza Vermes distils a lifetime’s knowledge to examine every saying attributed to Jesus, scraping aside millennia of Christian tradition and writing to return to the true teachings of the man behind the Messiah.
“Vermes argues his case with skill and clarity. Many will find the Jesus depicted in his pages a compelling figure: original, outspoken, compassionate” Guardian.

If you would like to buy a copy of this book it, can be ordered from Maureen Bownas on 0114 230 3757 or by signing up for a copy on the CRC table in the narthex of St Mark’s, price £6.99.

We hope that there will be enough interest in the Book Group for it to become a quarterly event. People are most welcome whether members of CRC or not.
