The Heart of Christianity
There are many fans of Marcus Borg on this side of the Atlantic and we are privileged to have this distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University as one of the patrons of St Marks Centre for Radical Christianity. His writings are, for me, erudite yet accessible to all. He revisions the Christian faith and the Christian life in a way which makes sense and is full of God. The previous best selling books, Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time, The God We Never Knew and Reading the Bible Again For the First Time provide enough material for a complete parish course! This latest book draws together these other writings on God, Jesus and the Bible and offers a convincing way of being a Christian in our contemporary world. Post 9/11, Borg offers us a refreshing way of being Christian in an age of pluralism and I found his quotation of a 20th century hymn in the closing pages of this book extremely moving.
Also note:
Saving Christianity New Thinking for Old Beliefs, by Hilary Wakeman (the Liffey Press, Dublin 2003) £10.95 pbk
A fascinating read by this retired Church of Ireland priest.
